was selected as the entrepreneur of the week, Dr. Gerald Kiner, Ph.D. declared, “ She is a unicorn. She is a mermaid. She is a rare woman in a field dominated by men and she is better than the majority of them all. She is a major asset to all that know her, in our community and beyond. I am so glad I am acquainted with this giant of a woman. She is truly a blessing.”

Q: Please state your name and the name of your company.

A: My name is Sucrontay Renae Stanley, everybody calls me Stan in the construction world. The name of my business is Home Engineering Services, LLC. And I have been in business almost two years, I’m also a retired veteran of 22 years.

Q: What gave you the vision to start your business?

A: Well, it came about with a few things. As a servant, as a soldier watching these government contractors come in and make repairs on government buildings, the inequality of quality of service that they gave, and the government was spending billions and millions of dollars. And being that I was in engineering, I was part of an engineering unit, and to me it didn’t make no sense when you have engineers that could do the same thing, but they paid contractors to come out and do the same job that soldiers could do.

So, I said, Okay, I’m going to become one of those when I come out. And the other part of it is, my grandfather was a construction worker, carpenter by trade. And he taught me a lot of skills that came back later on once I started teaching and going to school and getting certifications. Everything that he had taught me as a little kid growing up, how to fix plumbing, drywall, you name it, electrical, windows, everything that we just did for fun because I was with my grandfather. I just like hanging around my grandfather fixing on stuff.

Q:  What has been some of the biggest compliments you’ve received that has really blown your mind from your clientele?

A: My timeliness and the price that I have charged people. They couldn’t believe that it was that cheap. It was like, They were expecting to pay more than what I charged. I look at it like this, if this was my, and a lot of my clients are elderly clients. And I look at every client as if this was my grandmother or my grandfather, what I would do. There is no reason to charge a person 10 times of what the material is. My goal is to make everybody happy. I’m going to go home happy because I got paid for a good job. You’re going to be happy because I did a good job, and I don’t have to come back and refix. And the main thing is, they don’t feel like I took advantage of them as a contractor.

A lot of my clients, when I come to them I’m repairing from another contractor that had ripped them off, took they money and ran. I have seen that too many times in the two years that I’ve been in business. As they say, I’m the cleanup woman from other contractors because they take advantage of a lot of elderly and new homeowners. That’s my biggest thing, new homeowners and elderly. A lot of these contractors that’s been in business take advantage of them because they don’t know what to do. But I’ve made more money with word of mouth than subscribing to We Fix It. . I paid nothing from one of my grandmother’s friends, and I got 10 people’s houses to do.

Q: How did you hear about Daughters of Zion?

A: Actually, I heard it on the radio, and I seen it come across my Facebook. And I was like, I’ve got to get to that class. And it was like I was busy, I was like, you know what? I’m going to go. I had put it on my calendar and that day that I showed up here I had put it on my calendar, I said, I’m going to find out what is all of this with Daughters of Zion? When I walked into the door it was so much positive energy. It’s like my soul had been just rejuvenated.

Q: What has been some of the main things you’ve learned from Daughters of Zion, just the Saturday master classes?

A: Oh, my God! That’s… we ain’t got enough time for all that, but the main thing that I really learned is that you have to take time for yourself. Because if you don’t take time for yourself, how can you take time for others? If you’re constantly going and going, and going and going, and taking care of everything else, you’re going to get burned out, then you ain’t going to be no use for nobody else. And then, you have to weed out what’s not good for you in your life. And that’s one of the main things that I needed to hear when I came to Daughters of Zion, because I had a lot of people that was in my life that was drawing energy from me, but wasn’t putting nothing back in.

Q: What would you say to someone that is looking for a contractor, why they should come to you other than the other contractors out there?

A: I’ll give you two reasons. I give veterans another chance to serve they countries, because the majority of the people that work for me are ex-veterans. Two, I will beat any price of any other contractor, and I do it one time and one time only, and I will never have to come back. There’s never a redo, you’re going to get it right the first time and that’s my motto that’s also a military motto, ‘You do it right the first time, you ain’t got to look back.’ Also, from the insurance companies. I can show you how to get money to repair you home from any wind damage not just for roof damage.

Wow. You are the Entrepreneur of the Week, congratulations!
