Daughters of Zion SBA CNPP Grantee Makes An Immediate Impact Educating Underserved Memphis, Tennessee Entrepreneurs

By Nancy Osman

Daughters of Zion, a Small Business Administration- Community Navigator Pilot Program (CNPP) Grantee, held its first Business Loan and Grant Training Workshop Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Jesus People Church. Over 30 entrepreneurs registered for the event and were in attendance. For 100% of the entrepreneurs in attendance, it was their first time being exposed to programs that are available to them by the SBA. After Dr. Gerald Kiner, Ph.D. spent over two hours reviewing SBA programs that are available at Pinnacle Bank, discussing the EIDL programs that are about to end, and answering questions- the responses of the entrepreneurs was overwhelming. Aspiring entrepreneur Kamesha Todd, became teary-eyed when she stated “ thank you for this opportunity”. Another entrepreneur Jeamika Burton responded after the session “thank you for taking the time to present this information. You are changing lives.” When asked after the training how Dr. Kiner felt about helping and about the responses of the entrepreneurs, he responded, “ my job is to fulfill the vision of SBA Administrator Isbella Guzman and make sure we exceed the expectations of our CNPP Program Director, Mr. Terry Sutherland. Administrator Guzman’s vision is for us to connect with small businesses that have been historically underserved or left behind. I think you can see from those in attendance today we are doing just that. I am humbled by the response of everyone here today. Our hard-working staff made this possible.”

On December 7, 2021,  Daughters of Zion is having a follow-up Zoom meeting to help those in attendance complete the EIDL Loan, the Targeted EIDL Advance, and the Supplemental Targeted Advance.  If you would like to attend, please contact Daughters of Zion at 901-650-7340 or email info@daughtersofzion.org to request the Zoom link.
