FBI investigating Germantown cyber attack

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The City of Germantown reported on social media Friday morning that the city government “is experiencing a malicious cybersecurity incident.”
The city received reports of the disruption at around 6 a.m., and many systems throughout the city were taken offline as a security measure.
The FBI says that it is assisting with the criminal investigation.
Reports say the attack was contained and has potentially impacted a limited number of internal, on-site servers. The servers were isolated and all network computers were shut down.
The city says Information Technology staff and incident response specialists are working to restore system functionality and limit the impact of the incident.
911 services were fully operational, the city said. However, other phone lines to city offices were affected.
The city asked that non-emergency calls for public service be directed to 901-754-7222 or *54 from a cell phone.

Data related to finance, utilities, and payment information have not been compromised. The city says those systems are intentionally cloud-based to limit the scope of potential cybersecurity attacks.
As the investigation continues, if you do have any payments in Germantown, you are able to drop them off at drop box like the one in front of City Hall.
