As part of our follow-up to the progress the Daughters of Zion SBA CNPP grantee is making within Memphis, Shelby County, and beyond- we are highlighting the weekly Entrepreneur of the Week Award. LaShawaki Delaney was chosen as an entrepreneur of the week, and when asked why, Dr. Gerald Kiner, Ph.D. declared, “ LaShawaki Delaney is a very happy and content woman who is thriving in her craft. I am thankful to know her. She has overcome some of life’s most challenging obstacles yet she continues to excel in all that she does. She is a joy to work with and a joy to be around. She has evolved so gracefully and I know her business will evolve just as graceful and this only the beginning. It’s been said that the number 52 represents new beginnings, good fortune, and positive change. All of those adjectives embody LaShawaki Delaney. This is why she is our 52nd entrepreneur of the week.”

Q: Please state your name, the name of your company and the nature of your business.

A: My name is LaShawaki Delaney and I am the proud owner of Queens Palace Nails and Royalty Fitness & Apparel. Here at Queens Palace, we offer full sets, manicures, pedicures, foot massages and back massages. I specialize in natural nails but I love doing everything about nails. Here at Royalty Fitness & Apparel, we offer waist trainers, fitness clothing and apparel.

Q: How did you come up with that beautiful name?

A: I started a 7-day fitness challenge and in the process of my fitness journey I started thinking “What if I could help other people too.” I already call myself Queen Ki so Royalty Fitness and Queens Palace just seemed only appropriate.

Q: What made you want to start your business?

A: I was already doing nails before actually going to school to do it. One day when I was getting my nails done, my nail tech offered to teach me how to do nails and then I enrolled into school to get licensed to do nails. I absolutely love to do nails. When I am doing nails I do not feel like I am working and when I am making people feel good it makes me feel good and I just knew this was what I needed to be doing daily.

Q: What makes you stand out from the competition?

A: One significant thing that makes me stand out from the competition is most people are self-taught but I am self-taught, as well as, professionally taught so I feel Like I have a double portion to go with my craft. I provide great quality in my work and I am persistent at making sure my clients look exceptional when walking out the door.

Q: How did you find out about Daughters of Zion SBA CNPP?

A: I found out about the Daughters of Zion from Dr. Kiner.

Q: What would you say to other business owners about why they should become a part of the Daughters of Zion SBA Community Navigator Pilot Program?

A: What would I not say about this program…. The team is unmatched. They will call and check on you day and night just to make sure you have what you need to be just as successful as they are in their business. Dr. Kiner is more than knowledgeable. He loves to get his nails done so he has taught me how to expand my business just by showing me the little details he likes while getting his own services done. I love how Dr. Kiner brings these entrepreneurs’ crafts to life just by sharing his success stories about his own personal life. Daughters of Zion is not just a team builder but they are a community builder because they want the community to win, not just their own team. Dr Kiner even has a motto “Let’s win together” because together is the only way the community as a whole can win.

Q: What is the greatest testimony you have witnessed from your business?

A: The greatest testimony would have to be I had a client who came in for a pedicure and her feet looked like she had been walking through the mid-creeks of Africa barefoot with the way her heels were cracked and peeling. I was able to properly nourish her feet and restore them. She tipped me $100 and was crying at the end of service because there was not a dead skin left in sight. I was so grateful to be able to see her genuine response to my work.

Q: What’s something vital you want all the potential clients out there to know about you?

A: I provide exceptional service. I am able to travel to my clients wherever they are. I can come to the hospital, the nursing home, or anywhere my clients need me to be. I am available for pop-up shops and other services that are available.

Q: Let me ask you some fun facts about yourself. What is your favorite food? What is the most interesting thing people wouldn’t know about you? Do you have any pets? What is something you love?

A: My favorite food is oxtails. I would have to say many people think I am mean before they actually get to know me but I really am a nurturer. I have a 2-year-old female dog named Bear. I love to do nails.
