Former cop dubbed ‘Taser Face’ for excessive force allegations arrested for DUI

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A former Memphis police officer who earned the nickname “Taser Face” after investigators found he excessively used his Taser multiple times is behind bars on a DUI charge.
Colin Berryhill, 37, is charged with driving under the influence, plus violation of seat belt and open container laws.
According to the charges, this is his second DUI offense.
Shelby County Jail records show he was arrested Thursday. There’s no hearing or bail information available at this time.
The Memphis Police Department asked the state to decertify Berryhill after he violated the department’s excessive force policy three times with his Taser while on the job.
Because his decertification hearing was held nearly five years after he used excessive force, MPD told the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) that too much time had passed, and revoked their request.
Berryhill resigned from the Memphis Police Department before he could be disciplined back in 2020, but quickly found employment with the Southaven Police Department.
But a partnership with the Action News 5 Investigators and the Institute for Public Service Reporting revealed Berryhill resigned from Southaven after the Internal Affairs Bureau said he removed a citizen from his home, detained him without probable cause, would not tell the citizen why he was being handcuffed and placed him into a patrol vehicle.
