MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police dispersed up to 500 juveniles after a 14-year-old was chased and assaulted on Sunday in Hickory Hill.
Police said around 10 p.m., a simple assault report was made after a woman said she dropped her 14-year-old son off at an event center in the 7000 block of Malco Way.
She told police that after she dropped her son off, her son called her and said he was being chased by people and they were trying to assault him.
When the mother drove back to get him, she says she saw her son being physically assaulted at the entrance of Walgreens on 3760 Riverdale Road.
Police said the mother said she got out of her car and attempted to get the people assaulting her son off.
According to reports, she said several girls began pulling her by her braids, and when police arrived at the scene, the suspects ran away.
Officers said while they attempted to disperse 300 to 500 juveniles at the Hickory Hill address, the victim’s mother started arguing with a 14-year-old suspect.
The victim’s mother told police she punched the suspect in the face because the suspect spat at her.
The suspect told police one of his “brothers’ was in a fight with the victim, and he tried to separate his brother from the victim.
He said that when he told his brother to calm down, the victim’s mom punched him in the face.
The victim told police there was a fight at the Hickory Hill address, and everyone was told to leave.
After he left, he said he was assaulted by two other suspects.
Police said the mother was given a misdemeanor citation for simple assault, and her son was given a juvenile summons for simple assault.
