1st grader accepted into Mensa; started reading when he was 2 years old

MONROE, La. (KNOE/Gray News) – A young boy in Louisiana is setting lofty goals for himself even before starting second grade.
First-grader Taurian Collins has been accepted into Mensa, an organization that recognizes people who score in the 98th percentile in standardized testing.
Taurian’s parents said he started reading at the age of two and even overcame trouble hearing as a toddler.
“He wasn’t really talking. I don’t think he was saying 10 words,” Taurian’s mother, Jessica Collins, said.
Her intuition led to a trip to the pediatrician around four years ago.
Taurian ended up having his adenoids taken out and tubes placed in his ears.
Before the surgery, Taurian’s hearing sounded like he was underwater. Everything sounded mumbled to him. His speech was even mumbled.
However, following the procedure, his parents’ said Taurian has not stopped talking while continuing to read.
Taurian Collins shared a video of her little man reading what she was writing in full sentences.
Taurian says he wants to become an NFL player who moonlights as an astronaut when he gets older. That is, only after he graduates college early.
“He said he’s going to Harvard at 13. So, we’re going to do whatever we have to do to get him there,” Taurian’s mother said.
