Children call 911 after left alone, mom facing drug, neglect charges: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 33-year-old mother is facing a charge of Aggravated Child Abuse and Neglect for allegedly leaving her children home alone with marijuana, pills, and an assault rifle within their reach.
Memphis police said Wednesday officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Mossbrook Lane at the Greenbrook Apartments in Northeast Memphis after juveniles in the apartment called 911 and said they were all alone.
The affidavit of complaint does not specify the number of juveniles in the apartment, but it mentions that one of the children, an 11-year-old girl, was asleep when officers arrived.
Police said that they found no adults in the home. However, while searching the apartment, they discovered several clear baggies containing a green leafy substance, an empty bottle of vodka, a lighter, matches, as well as an assault rifle, multiple pill bottles, and cash in an open closet.
The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana. Police said they also seized $1,200 and other drug paraphernalia.
MPD said the children’s mother, Laquita Boyd, was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to Manufacture, Deliver, or Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possessing a Firearm during Commission or Attempt to Commit a Dangerous Felony.
Boyd is scheduled to appear for a video arraignment on Thursday.
