Shelby County Election Commission hosts voter registration drive ahead of Oct. 5 deadline

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – With the registration deadline for the November general election a week away, the Shelby County Election Commission is holding a voter registration drive on Monday, Sept. 28.
Residents may register in person at either of the two commission locations, which offer extended evening hours from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.:
- Downtown Office: 157 Poplar Avenue, Suite 137
- Operations Center: 980 Nixon Drive
Voters can also register online at shelbyvote.com or by mail. Mail-in applications must be postmarked or received by October 4, ahead of the state’s final voter registration cutoff on Monday, October 5.
Voter Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old on or before Election Day.
- Must be a resident of Shelby County.
- Cannot have a felony conviction, unless voting rights have been legally restored.
- Must present a valid (current or expired) Tennessee state-issued or federal photo ID, including:
- Tennessee driver’s license
- U.S. passport
- Photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security
- Tennessee handgun carry permit with photo
- U.S. military photo ID
A REAL ID is not required to register or vote.
