Germantown and Collierville Municipal Schools ban personal cell phone use
By:
The Germantown and Collierville Municipal School Districts banned students from using cell phones for personal reasons during school hours Tuesday night.
The Germantown board banned all cell phone use during instructional time unless the teacher allows the students to use them for class. Students can also use their phones during an emergency, or to monitor their health.
In Collierville, students are allowed to have their phones on them, so long as they are turned off and in a bag or backpack. As in Germantown, however, they can use their phones for instructional purposes during class, so long as the teacher allows it. However, if a Collierville student is found to be using their phone for personal reasons, it will confiscated until it can be returned to a parent or guardian.
The school boards updated their polices in response to a new state law.
