The defensive line coach was hired in the 2023 offseason, but quickly heads back to his home state.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a short lived stay for Memphis Tigers football defensive line coach Lou Esposito.

Just three months after getting hired by Ryan Silverfield, he’s already packed his bag for greener pastures in the state he’s long called home. Esposito is headed to Ann Arbor to join the University of Michigan staff.

Esposito was brought in from Western Michigan, where he had been spent the last years as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. The former Memphis Tigers was hired to be co-defensive coordinator alongside first time DC Jordon Hankins, who took the job after a stellar interim showing in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

The Blue Bloods came calling shortly after. The University of Michigan announced, Friday, that head coach Sherrone Moore had hired Esposito to be the Wolverines defensive line coach, after their championship season.

The Memphis Tigers will play their spring game April 20 in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium at 3 p.m.
