Food Support Resources for Memphis Families
As of November 1, approximately 167,000 residents of Memphis and Shelby County are facing food insecurity due to the disruption in SNAP benefit funding.
You can help us protect our community by providing food, volunteering your time, or making a monetary contribution to support families across Memphis. Your help ensures that every household has access to healthy, reliable food during this time.
Under the leadership of Mayor Paul Young, the City of Memphis is coordinating with Shelby County Government, the United Way of the Mid-South, the Mid-South Food Bank, the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, and a network of nonprofit and faith-based partners to protect food access for families across the community.
This work is expanding distribution capacity, supporting flexible hours for working families, and ensuring that emergency food programs reach neighborhoods with the greatest need.
The City of Memphis is making a significant financial investment of $500k to support this effort and strengthen food access infrastructure for families.
United Way of the Mid-South is serving as the primary partner for monetary donations to support families during this time. While all support is appreciated, monetary donations make the biggest impact. The Mid-South Food Bank recommends financial contributions when possible because their purchasing power allows them to turn every dollar into many meals, multiplying the impact of your generosity.

The City of Memphis’ commitment is simple and strong. Every family in Memphis deserves to have food on the table, no Memphian should face hunger alone.
Residents do not need to show proof of employment, income, or SNAP benefits to access emergency food programs unless specifically noted.
Please note: Current SNAP benefits already loaded onto recipients’ EBT cards remain valid and can continue to be used for groceries. However, during this federal funding lapse, new benefit payments for future months cannot be guaranteed until federal funding resumes. The state is monitoring the situation and will update beneficiaries as soon as more information becomes available.
