Leaders discuss development of hot mix asphalt plant in East Collierville

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) – Leaders of the Town of Collierville met Monday afternoon to discuss developing a hot mix asphalt plant.
If approved, the facility would sit in the easternmost portion of the town at Progress Road and Keough Road, across the street from Collierville Public Works.
Residents in Collierville and the neighboring City of Piperton say they are worried about air pollution, noise pollution, and other potential impacts the plant may have on surrounding neighborhoods.
“Collierville residents are concerned, Piperton residents are also concerned, and this is also in line with the current issue of data centers and pollution,” said Yetunde Okunade Aird, a Collierville citizen. “The air quality—people are breathing these chemicals in. It shouldn’t happen.”

During Monday’s town hall work session, leaders reviewed concerns about the development’s potential impacts on traffic, air quality, and ambient noise and odor.
Town officials say community input is critical for this project.
Several conditions are still pending approval before the asphalt plant is greenlit, including a Shelby County Health Department Air Quality Permit.
