MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Macy’s at Oak Court Mall in East Memphis is closing, the retail company confirmed Thursday.
In an announcement Jan. 9, 2025, leaders at Macy’s Inc. announced 66 store locations would close, including the store at Oak Court Mall – the only closure set for Tennessee.
Macy’s leaders said the closures are part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy which it announced in February 2024. As part of the plan, the company said about 150 “unproductive” stores would close over a three-year period. Investments would be made in another 350 locations through 2026.
The full list of 66 closing Macy’s locations can be found here. Most are expected to close during the first quarter of 2025, though exact dates were not released.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc., in a statement.
