National Civil Rights Museum to celebrate MLK Day with free admission

By:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A tradition continues.

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the National Civil Rights Museum (NCRM) will once again open its doors to the public for free.

The museum will have free admission from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. Built around the Lorraine Motel where MLK was assassinated, the NCRM is located at 450 Mulberry St. in Downtown Memphis.

The free admission is part of NCRM’s daylong celebration to honor the legacy of MLK “with a special emphasis on community service,” the museum said in a statement.

Visitors are encouraged to donate nonperishable to Mid-South Food Bank, while the museum is also offering a front-of-the-line museum entry and two visitor passes to NCRM for any day this year for donating to Vitalant’s mobile MLK Spirit of Service Blood Drive.

Both services will be at the museum.

Other activities include music performances by local artists such as the Stax Museum Satellite Band and Overton High School choir and activities for children.
