Tennessee has 9th cheapest price per gallon at the fuel pump, AAA says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The cost to fill up at the pump in Tennessee has continually fallen in recent weeks, according to data compiled by AAA – The Auto Club Group.

The average gas price is currently at $2.74 per gallon, a dime less than it cost a month ago, and is 15 cents cheaper than the same time one year ago, AAA says.

Prices dropped an average of 6 cents per gallon over the past week, and overall Tennessee has the ninth cheapest auto fuel cost in the United States, according to AAA.

“We are starting a new year with cheaper prices at the pump, and are also seeing the cheapest gas prices since December 2022,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA.

“We typically see lower gas prices at the start of the year thanks to lower gasoline demand, and barring any major changes in the oil market, it’s likely these cheaper prices will continue through this week – especially if crude oil prices remain low.”

While Memphis has the second-most expensive average price ($2.82 per gallon) behind Jackson in Tennessee, Chattanooga has the least expensive average cost ($2.62 per gallon).
