MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Court documents reveal new details following the arrest of two Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday.
Two Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies, Jhyunn Armstrong, 30, and Israel Muhammad, 27, were charged with aggravated assault on Sunday. Shortly before 1:30 a.m., Memphis police officers responded to an aggravated assault call at the 9500 block of Morning Shadow Drive.
A victim told officers that he was assaulted by Armstrong and Muhammad while he was fixing his car at a friend’s house. He said Muhammad approached, shining a flashlight on him, and, as he looked up, Armstrong was pointing a gun at him.
The victim said Muhammad pulled him up from the vehicle floorboard and began choking him from behind.

The victim’s friend came out of the house and said the victim was working on the car and had called the police. The witness also said that after dialing the police, Muhammad showed his badge as Armstrong gave his gun to another person on the scene.
The witness provided officers with footage of the incident, in which Muhammad is heard yelling, “Don’t make me choke you out.”
During the investigation, Muhammad admitted to putting the victim in a chokehold, but he said his arms did not go to his neck. Armstrong also admitted to holding the victim at gunpoint.
Investigators served a search warrant at Armstrong’s home and located the gun used in the incident.
Both Armstrong and Muhammad were charged with aggravated assault, and no bond has been set at this time.
Muhammad is one of the deputies who rescued two boys from a freezing pond in Southeast Memphis on Jan. 30.
Both Armstrong and Muhammad are set to appear in court on Tuesday.
