Shelby County Health Department to host ‘Fight the Bite’ environmental festival

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —
The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) is hosting a “Fight the Bite” festival Saturday, June 22, to promote community awareness of mosquito control activities and environmental ecology for National Mosquito Control Awareness Week.
Although mosquitoes may seem small and irrelevant, it is important to understand their habitat, the diseases they bring and how humans can stay protected.
“Shelby County is fortunate to have a comprehensive mosquito control program that monitors for mosquito-borne disease and combats mosquito breeding and adult mosquito populations in every Shelby County zip code,” said Dr. Michelle Taylor, SCHD director-health officer. “Vector Control is proud to work with community organizations and homeowners to help them control mosquitoes so they can enjoy the outdoors safely all summer long.”
National Mosquito Control Awareness Week is from June 20-26 every year. The festival in Shelby County will take place Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gaisman Community Center, 4221 Macon Road.
The event will include educational displays, demonstrations, giveaways, games and music for children and adults.
