19-year-old arrested after shooting at Shelby Co. deputies, SCSO says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A 19-year-old was arrested after shooting at Shelby County deputies on Saturday, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler Johnson is charged with second-degree murder, possessing a firearm during the commission/attempt to commit a dangerous felony and theft of property.

At 1:06 a.m. deputies responded to a suspicious person call on Manslick Road in the Cordova Area.

Deputies spoke with the caller who showed them footage of a man wearing a red jacket, black pants and back/red shoes in the caller’s backyard.

Just after 1:30 a.m., deputies found the man who matched the description on Mirage Lane.

Deputies got out of their vehicles, and as they approached the suspect, the man began to shoot at them several times, according to SCSO.

A deputy shot back, hitting the suspect in the hand, according to SCSO.

The man, identified as Johnson, was then taken into custody and taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

According to the affidavit, detectives recovered a black extended Glock magazine with three line 9mm rounds, two loose 9mm rounds, a spent 9mm bullet casing and a black Glock 19. In the slide of the Glock 19 was another spent 9mm bullet casing. A three spent 40 caliber was also recovered.

Johnson is expected in court on Oct. 21.
