2 new bills introduced by State Rep. Gillespie to target bail procedures in Tenn.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -Two bills introduced by Tennessee Representative John Gillespie are addressing how the Volunteer State handles bail and bonds.

Gillespie is proposing reform and will be presenting the bills will be heard at the upcoming legislative session.

House Bill 33 would create a precedent that a person charged with an offense that involved the use or display of a firearm or resulted in bodily injury or death should not be released without bond.

Bill 34 would allow a defendant’s prior juvenile record to be considered in addition to prior criminal record to determine bail.
