Two ex-MPD officers closer to decertification; one arrested again

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A state policing board recommended to decertify two former Memphis police officers, who are both federally convicted.
That means they will no longer be able to work in law enforcement in the state of Tennessee.
MPD requested the Peace Officer Standards Training Commission make the move to decertify them.
Tadarrius Bean was federally convicted in the beating death of Tyre Nichols but acquitted of state charges. We found out he’s submitted paperwork surrendering his license.
In May 2023, Bean asked the policing board to postpone any decertification decision until the conclusion of the criminal case. His attorney showed up to that meeting, but neither the attorney nor Bean were present Thursday.
Former MPD officer Arica Hutchison also didn’t show up to the meeting. POST commissioners voted to move forward with her decertification.
Hutchison served time in federal prison for stealing thousands of dollars in Crime Stoppers reward money.
MPD’s legal advisor mentioned to POST commissioners she’s also been in further trouble with the law.
“She’s also been convicted for a DUI in Fayette County after she was released from prison,” he said.
Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports Arica Hutchison was booked in August 2024 for a DUI and open container. Tennessee Highway Patrol made the arrest We’re working to find out more.
A third former MPD officer Padraic O’Feely was up for a vote, but his case was moved to September.
POST commissioners did approve decertification for Former Dyer County Deputy Martin Jordan. A Dyer County representative said he’s been in federal custody since March for aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
Also, Shelby County deputy William McAnally didn’t show for his hearing. The commissioners voted by default for decertification. POST records state he was terminated last summer for failing a drug test.
The recommendations made by the commission will go to the full commission Friday for a final vote.
