Memphis’ Charles Huff named Bear Bryant National Coach of the Week

Huff is the first Tiger’s coach ever to receive the honor
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University of Memphis football head coach Charles Huff has been named the Bear Bryant National Coach of the Week after leading the Tigers to a comeback victory over UNLV in his Memphis debut.
Huff was announced as the recipient of the award on Aug. 31 by the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award Commission for Week 0 of the college football season. This commission recognizes the best coaches in Division I college football every year. Since the weekly award’s inception in 2024, Huff is the first Memphis coach to receive this honor.
Memphis defeated UNLV, 27-21, behind solid play from the Tigers’ offense and a dominant effort by the Tigers’ defense. Huff’s defense held the Rebels to 7 points in the second half while recording six sacks and 11 tackles for loss in the process.
Huff became the first head coach in program history to win his debut game on the road with the Tigers’ win. Huff and the Tigers hope to keep this momentum going in the home opener Saturday, Sept. 5 against Arkansas State.
