City Council calls for resignation of Helena-West Helena Mayor over video
by: Raven Moore
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The City of Helena-West Helena’s city council announced it is requesting the immediate resignation of Mayor Christopher Franklin.
This comes days after a viral Facebook Live broadcast that Mayor Franklin conducted was deemed “unbecoming of the office of Mayor.”
The matter was addressed in the agenda for Tuesday’s city council meeting.
In the document, it states that the city council determined that Mayor Franklin has recorded, published and disseminated a derogatory Facebook Live video in which he tells his adult daughter and adult niece to “Eat his d—” and made other foul-mouthed statements using what they describe as a “litany of profanity and antagonistic language.”
It adds that the video of Mayor Franklin is “prurient, grotesque, misogynistic, narcissistic, nauseating and in no wise expressive of all the people of our city (Helena-West Helena).”
Therefore, the city council resolved that it “strongly censures” Mayor Franklin for his conduct and “undeniably” requests his “immediate resignation.”
The document also “demands” an immediate, complete and contrite apology to all persons impacted by the Mayor’s actions.
Arkansas state police are not investigating this matter and the Attorney General’s office told WREG that they could “neither confirm nor deny any investigation related to this matter.”
