The Collierville Police Department (CPD) announced on Friday, March 7, that they are actively investigating reports regarding drink tampering at two local restaurants.

CPD released a statement on social media, which reads:

“Detectives with the Collierville Police Department are actively investigating four reports regarding potential drink tampering at two local restaurants. The establishments are fully cooperating, providing video surveillance to assist in the investigation.

At this time, no criminal incidents have been confirmed, but detectives are carefully reviewing test results and continuing their investigation.”

While CPD did not disclose the names of the restaurants involved, Casa Mexicana and Frida’s in Collierville shared statements clarifying their cooperation in the investigation.

A submerged car was discovered in a pond in East Shelby County on March 1. Investigators from Shelby County reported no indications of foul play; however, the cause of death is still under investigation. Online discussions have suggested that this case might be one of the 4 reported incidents being investigated, but CPD has yet to clarify that information.

Casa Mexicana released a statement on Friday expressing their condolences for the tragic loss of Kristen Fundo, the woman found in a submerged car in East Shelby County, and addressing the spread of misinformation online.

“Casa Mexicana is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Kristen Fundo and offers its heartfelt condolences to the Fundo family during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this heartbreaking event.

Casa Mexicana affirms its full cooperation with the authorities as the investigation into this incident continues. Given the gravity of the situation and its impact on the families involved, Casa Mexicana remains committed to ensuring that all facts are thoroughly examined.

It has come to our attention that false and misguided information regarding the incident is being shared on various platforms. To clarify, Collierville Police Department has advised us today that there have been no confirmed reports that any of Casa Mexicana Collierville’s food or beverage has been tampered or altered in any way.

Casa Mexicana is committed to providing top-quality food and service to its customers and upholding the highest standards of safety and excellence.

In light of the ongoing investigation, Casa Mexicana urges the public and media to exercise caution in spreading unverified claims. The dissemination of unsupported information can have unintended consequences for individuals, families, and businesses alike. We respectfully ask for careful consideration before sharing details that may not be accurate.

Casa Mexicana remains dedicated to supporting the affected families and ensuring that truth and fairness prevail throughout this process.”

After reaching out to Frida’s in Collierville, they shared the following statement with ABC24:

“First and foremost, we are deeply saddened by the situation involving Kristen, and our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. To clarify, Frida’s is being investigated, but not in connection to Kristen’s passing. The investigation stems from an anonymous Facebook post in the U of M Girls BST group, which falsely claimed that Frida’s was involved in drink tampering. We have been fully cooperating with CPD, providing surveillance footage and any information they request to ensure transparency. Frida’s has been a proud part of this community for the past eight years, actively supporting local initiatives and fostering a safe and welcoming environment for our guests. We take these claims seriously and remain committed to the well-being of our customers. If you need further information, please let us know.”
