MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Halloween is just a few days away and if you’re looking for a way to get scared for a good cause, St. Jude has a place for you.

Richard Winkles’ Haunted Yard is a fundraiser for St. Jude, a part of a national drive called “Skeletons for St. Jude.”

“I found this group that does Skeletons for St. Jude and we had all these props in my yard and I was like I want to help out a good cause,” Winkles said.

Winkles cranked up his display in August and has added more and more frightening features heading toward Halloween night.

“It’s probably $5,000 you’re looking at,” Winkles said. “So, it’s a lot but it’s for a good cause so that’s the main thing. We’re doing it for a good cause.”

Winkles has made it easier for people passing by to donate to St. Jude.

Throughout the Haunted Yard, there are multiple locations where you can scan a QR code and make your donation.

Winkles says you’ll get a receipt through your email and the satisfaction of helping Skeletons for St. Jude continue to grow.

His neighbors have watched the yard become quite an attraction and applaud Winkles’s efforts.

“I think it’s awesome. It’s obviously raising money for St. Jude which is a great, great cause. So I think it’s incredible,” David Omeliantschu said.

Winkles doesn’t want folks to lose sight of why he goes through this labor of love.

“My goal is, in five years, to raise $20,000 just locally for this Skeletons for St. Jude,” he said.

Winkles’ haunted yard is on Hill Gail Drive, where the creatures move nightly from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.
