Memphis begins sewer construction downtown, closing streets through September 30

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The City of Memphis is installing new sanitary sewer infrastructure downtown, starting work Monday, which will affect traffic in the area.
Traffic control devices will close South Front Street at Mina and Butler Avenue starting today.

The city says the closures are intended to reduce sanitary sewer overflows.
Drivers traveling on South Front Street near Mina Avenue will be rerouted to another street during construction.
The intersections near the Blue Monkey have been opening and closing for construction for months.
The city says South Front, Mina, and Butler will remain closed until September 30.
A reporter has reached out to the city for clarification on alternate routes and is still waiting to hear back.
