More Reported Bad News For Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant

By:

Ja Morant’s shoes are reportedly no longer on Nike’s website.

Ja Morant has been in the news all week due to a viral social media clip where he allegedly held a gun (he got suspended eight games during the regular season for a similar incident).

The Memphis Grizzlies have already suspended the superstar point guard “from all team activities.”

In addition, Adrian Wojnarowski (appearing on ESPN’s Get Up) reported that the league could come down with “a significant suspension.”

Based on his past actions, it’s no surprise that the penalty could be much more severe than the eight games he received during the season.

The NBA is not the only one who could be upset with Morant, as he has notable sponsorships from major companies.

On Tuesday, YouTube Guy noticed that the Nike website no longer featured Morant’s shoes.

Damichael Cole of Commercial Appeal reported more on the matter.

Via Cole: “The “Hunger” Ja 1s are no longer listed on the Nike app after being displayed as recently as yesterday. The scheduled release date is Thursday, May 25.”

Having a signature shoe with Nike is a significant accomplishment, as only five players in the NBA had their own shoe with the company during the 2022-23 season (via The Sporting News).

At 23 years old, Morant is one of the most notable rising stars in the league and averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 46.6% from the field this year.

The Grizzlies went 51-31 and were the second seed in the Western Conference for the second consecutive season (they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round).

On Tuesday evening, the former Murray State star released a statement relayed by ESPN’s Wojnarowski.

Morant via Wojnarowski“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me. This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”
