MPD shuts down car ‘slideshow’ in Hickory Hill
By:
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police broke up a care “slideshow” Friday night just after snow stopped falling across Memphis.
Officers with Memphis Police (MPD) responded to a parking lot in Hickory Hill, where people gathered. Organizers advertised the event as a snowball fight and slideshow, but only adults showed up at the event and no one was seen throwing snowballs.
The event happened in a parking lot near Winchester and Hickory Hill Road.
“I mean, it’s to be expected. It’s Memphis. You don’t get this often so when people get it, they are going to take advantage of it,” said Chris Johnson, a resident.
MPD showed up at the event about 30 minutes after it started and told onlookers and participants that they would be arrested if they did not leave the premises.
The city has stated in the past that these types of events are dangerous because when organizers do not pull permits, often times they do not have the necessary safeguards to keep people from being hurt.
