Nashville native designs Patrick Mahomes’ Super Bowl suit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Although the Tennessee Titans didn’t make it to Super Bowl LVIII, Middle Tennessee was still represented at the big game in Las Vegas.
Nashville native Stephen Richards Jr., owner of Richards Bespoke, was the man behind Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes’ custom-tailored suit, complete with a lining showcasing the athlete’s number and personal logo.
“I love designing, so when somebody asks me to design something such as this super bowl suit, it’s a lot of fun,” said Richards.
According to Richards, the suit took several weeks of planning.
“We try to think of things that [Mahomes] has not done before or anything close to it. This year we branched out with new materials, velvet, silk. He really loved a silk suit that he wore a few weeks ago, so we decided to do that for the Super Bowl suit,” Richards said. “Just something unique and made for him that nobody else has.”
Sunday’s suit isn’t the only custom suit Richards created for the three-time MVP. For the last several years, he’s designed Mahomes’ looks for regular season games and other special occasions, including the suit Mahomes wore in 2022 when he tied the knot.
However, Richards said it’s about more than just putting together something nice to wear; what he designs helps to get his clients in the right mindset to win.
“Right when he’s walking into the game is when he needs to feel most confident. Doesn’t like how he feels or how he looks, it’s just not starting off on the right page,” said Richards.
While football season is officially over, preparation for next year’s signature designs will soon begin at Richards Bespoke. In the meantime, Richards said he’s enjoyed the community’s support of his work for Super Bowl LVIII.
“How many people that’s reached out to me over the last couple days saying, ‘That’s so cool. Something from our community is being shown on the big stage.’ For me, I watch it happen and I think it’s awesome, but to have other people rally around me in Middle Tennessee, I think that’s pretty cool,” said Richards.
