National youth foundation to protest After School Satan Club at local elementary

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A national youth advocacy foundation, formed after the shooting deaths of students inside a Texas elementary school in 2022, will be holding a protest against an after-school club that’s recently formed at Chimney Rock Elementary in Cordova.

The Uvalde Foundation for Kids will be demonstrating on Jan. 3 and Jan. 10, starting at 9 a.m., against the After School Satan Club, sponsored by the Satanic Temple.

Memphis Shelby County Schools recently gave official approval for the club.

The foundation is a non-violent advocacy organization, “Dedicated To Ending School Violence & Enriching Student Lives,” according to its website.

The Uvalde Foundation said in a release, concerning Chimney Rock, that, “Not only is the presence of this club and its influence on students not welcome in Memphis schools due to its values & teachings; but additionally, we are concerned that the presence of this club threatens to create ongoing conflict between community members; including other groups; which we fear could spill over and disrupt students; potentially placing them in harm.”

On May 24, 2022, an 18-year-old man opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, killing 19 children and two teachers.

The Foundation adds that its organizers plan to continual to recruit and expand its STOPNOW Volunteer School Patrol Teams for the the Chimney Rock Elementary community, starting Jan. 10.

Similar patrols have been put in place in Nashville, the release said, including for the Covenant School community, where a several children were killed when a visitor armed with a gun trespassed on the campus on March 27, 2023.
