Shelby County Commissioner Chairwoman Miska Clay Bibbs Responds to Community Need with Emergency Water Donation to Daughters of Zion

In a heartwarming display of community support, Shelby County Commissioner Chairwoman Miska Clay Bibbs swiftly took action to provide much-needed relief during a challenging time. When the city was grappling with a winter storm and a city-wide boil water advisory, Bibbs’ office wasted no time in reaching out to Daughters of Zion, one of the most renowned poverty-fighting organizations in Tennessee. Within just 12 hours of contact, Daughters of Zion’s Hickory Hill headquarters received a generous donation of 80 cases of water, ensuring that the community’s urgent water needs were met.

Daughters of Zion, known for its unwavering commitment to helping those in need, made it clear that there would be no limits on when people could access the water. Community members were encouraged to come day or night, reflecting the organization’s dedication to providing essential support whenever it is needed most.

The impact of this swift response was immediately felt by individuals who relied on this essential resource. From the first person to arrive – 80-year-old, Willy Harris, who sought water for his church pantry to others like Wilbur Davis, Tosha Dae, and Natyia Harris, the outpouring of gratitude and relief was palpable. Even 72-year-old Carolyn Quinn, grateful for the blessing that arrived just when it was needed most, voiced her appreciation for the generosity shown by Chairwoman Miska Clay Bibbs.

The next to show up was Wilbur Davis. He  called the water a godsend, a much-needed blessing to help him “get through hard times.”

Toshiba Dae said, “the store is out of water. I have four kids. Knowing I can come here to get water for my family is an answered prayer.”

Natyia Harris, in her elation, stated she was thankful because “none was in the store and water is life.”

Seventy-two-year-old Carolyn Quinn said her water had “been off since Monday.” Even though it’s back on, “the water coming out of the faucet is grey and undrinkable.”

Daughters of Zion’s commitment to providing ongoing support was evident as they continued to make water available for pickup at their Hickory Hill location, ensuring that those in need could access this vital resource as long as supplies lasted.

Miska Bibbs’ decisive action and Daughters of Zion’s tireless dedication have made a profound impact on the community, exemplifying the power of leadership and compassion in times of need.

Water is available to pick up at Daughters of Zion @ Jesus People Church, 4400 Hickory Hill Road, as needed, while bottles last.
