$430 million investment—how the TVA is working to minimize outages this winter

By Joel Moore

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – As the Mid-South prepares for the first winter storm of the season, the Tennessee Valley Authority has invested in making sure power outages are less rampant.

One of the biggest concerns as we get closer to the winter weather is power.

MLGW says they’ve made significant investments to prevent outages like we saw last year; they’ve made investments towards tree trimming and insulating water pump motors.

MLGW is powered by TVA. Last year, TVA invested $430 million to enhance its reliability.

That includes upgraded insulation and creating a new system to send real-time readings to a control center to allow operators to be more responsive during freezing conditions.
