Sam’s Town Casino in Tunica to close permanently

by:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Tunica, Mississippi, casino announced it is permanently closing in November.

Sam’s Town Hotel and Gaming Hall announced they will be closing permanently on November 9 at 10 p.m.

Sam’s Town Vice President of Corporate Communications, David Strow, said the following in a statement:

“This was not an easy decision for our Company. However, demand throughout the northwest Mississippi market has declined significantly over the past 20 years, with several of Tunica’s original casinos closing since 2014. Our decision to close Sam’s Town is a result of these market conditions and follows our best efforts to adjust the business to address lower demand.

These decisions are by far the most difficult we have to make as a company, and we regret that this was necessary.”

“We would like to thank you for your patronage and invite you to please visit our other locations for your entertainment,” said Sam’s Town on its website.

According to TunicaTravel, on May 25, 1994, Sam’s Town opened as Tunica’s largest casino to date.

They said on Feb. 15, 1996, the casino announced a $40 million expansion with convention facilities and 350 new hotel rooms, bringing the total to 860 hotel rooms.
