Collierville Middle School teacher suspended, under investigation

By:

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – A Collierville Middle School teacher has been suspended without pay while under investigation.

There have been posts on social media that a teacher was arrested at school, but both Collierville Schools and Collierville Police said that is not true.

The district told FOX13 police did ask to speak to an employee on campus yesterday morning, but police said no one was arrested.

Police confirmed an investigation is underway. The district said it is also investigating.

In a message to families sent late this morning, Collierville Middle School’s principal stated, “A teacher has been placed on leave without pay pending an ongoing investigation by the Collierville Police Department and Collierville Schools due to a matter of concern.”

“At this time, no arrests have been made, and we are committed to a thorough and impartial review of the situation. If your child was impacted by the investigation, you would have been contacted by this time,” Principal Anita Swindle wrote. “We would like to extend our gratitude to the Collierville Police Department for their participation and support in this investigation. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to resolve this matter and prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”

FOX13 learned the name of the teacher; students said they saw police lead away from a classroom yesterday. We are not publishing that name because no one has been charged.

FOX13 has asked Collierville Schools if that was the employee suspended. The district has not answered that question.
