Collierville Police warning about phone scammers posing as officers, deputies

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Collierville Police Department (CPD) issued a warning Thursday about callers posing as officers and deputies in an effort to steal money from residents.
This is a scam, police said.
In a Facebook post, CPD warned that scammers are impersonating as both deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and Collierville Police officers to get personal information and money over the phone.
The police department reminded the public to not give out personal information to “suspicious” callers.
“Instead, jot down the details provided and follow up with that agency by verifying the agency’s contact info by visiting their official website,” CPD said in the Facebook post. “Stay sharp and keep your personal info safe!”
