Collierville restaurant denies drugging allegations amid investigation

by:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One of two restaurants being investigated on four reports of potential drink tampering is denying the incident has anything to do with them.

Casa Mexicana and Frida’s have been identified as the restaurants under investigation by Collierville Police and the Alcoholic Beverage Control.

One woman was found dead in a retention pond, and her family said that she was at Casa Mexicana on Feb. 28.

“Somebody posted, ‘Oh I went to Frida’s and I felt I can handle my alcohol. I’ve never felt this way. Somebody roofied me,’” said Frida’s General Manager, Erik Gonzalez.

He said a social media post is why police came to Frida’s with questions.

Gonzalez said that police asked him if he knew what was going on with other restaurants’ situations, and he told them he was not aware.

He learned Frida’s was accused of drink tampering the same night a woman was found dead in a retention pond last weekend.

Casa Mexicana sent a statement sending their condolences to the family. Police have not confirmed any drink or food tampering.

WREG did contact the City of Collierville, and they said Frida’s or Casa Mexicana has never had any beer board violations.

The state’s Alcohol Beverage Commission said that they’re aware of the reports of tampering and investigating but had no other comment.

Frida’s manager showed WREG receipts from a large company party involved in the investigation. They had 18 margaritas and 30 shots and spent a little more than $1,000.

He said that surveillance video showed that the drinks started to kick in, and you can see they came in relaxed and calm. Then they were all over each other.

Frida’s says they are considering taking legal action against those from the company party who brought the allegations against them.
