MEMPHIS, TN —— In a heartwarming celebration on July 29, 2024, Daughters of Zion, one of Tennessee’s leading poverty-fighting organizations, proudly hosted its sixth graduation ceremony for the students of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. The air was filled with joy and laughter as ten remarkable students crossed the stage, greeted by the thunderous applause and cheers of family and friends, marking a significant achievement not just for them, but for their entire families.
This year’s graduation was particularly special, as it was the first time that five of the graduates had already obtained their CNA licenses prior to the ceremony. As they beamed in their crisp, all-white graduation attire, their camaraderie shone brightly, embodying the spirit of teamwork that is a cornerstone of Daughters of Zion’s mission to uplift those in need. Their smiles radiated joy, reflecting the collective pride of families who had journeyed alongside them through every step of the program.
Instructor Nurse Barbara Jones referred to this group as “extraordinary,” and her words rang true as the graduates took to the stage to share their personal success stories. Each student expressed deep gratitude for their peers and the dedicated staff who supported them along the way. Abria Franklin spoke movingly about the friendships that helped her stay focused throughout her training, while Laquita Smith shared her desire to continue building those connections outside of school. Taylor Jones, with infectious enthusiasm, highlighted the transformative experience she had, strengthened by the bonds formed during the program.
Adding to the celebration was the keynote speaker, Mrs. Natalee Peart Simpson, who inspired the graduates to envision a future beyond their current milestones. She passionately urged them to pursue higher education and aspire to earn doctorates or even establish their own healthcare enterprises. Her powerful message resonated deeply with the graduates, igniting a spark of ambition and hope for their futures.
Echoing Mrs. Simpson’s sentiments, Ms. Jeron Payne, a former student, a licensed Nursing Assistant, and now a cherished tutor, reinforced the promise of financial opportunity that the healthcare field holds. She reminded the graduates that their success would not only change their lives but also lift their families out of poverty, embodying the transformative mission of Daughters of Zion.
As the ceremony concluded, the joy in the room was palpable. Laughter and celebration intertwined as graduates embraced their families and friends, knowing that this achievement was more than a personal victory; it was a collective triumph for everyone who had supported them on their journey. Daughters of Zion continues to stand out as a beacon of hope, fighting poverty one graduate at a time, and empowering future leaders in the healthcare industry to make a difference in their communities. This graduation was not just a celebration of hard work; it was a testament to the enduring strength of family, community, and the unwavering spirit of those who dare to dream.
