Man writes fraudulent checks for over $40k to buy cars, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Police Department has arrested and charged a man accused of writing fraudulent checks to purchase vehicles.

According to MPD, officers were investigating fradulent activity at the Auto Universe on Winchester Road and the Auto Nation Ford on Mount Moriah.

During their investigation, they discovered that two faulty checks had been written to purchase a vehicle from both locations: the first check amounted to $25,924 for a 2019 Mercedes Benz, and the second check was for $15,901.41 for a 2017 BMW.

According to the affidavit, both checks were also written under false names with fake IDs.

Upon further investigation, MPD identified the suspect responsible as Jacquell Bradford, 30.

Bradford was booked into jail on September 13 and is now facing charges for theft of property and forgery.
