Memphis City Council declines permit for new high school in Cordova

By Action News 5 Staff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis City Council has denied the special use permit for a new Cordova High School.

The permit was voted down in a one-to-seven vote, with two city counselors opting out of voting.

In 2022, Shelby County, Memphis-Shelby County Schools, the City of Germantown and Germantown Municipal School District reached an agreement to build a new high school on Fischer Steel Road in Cordova.

It was supposed to be the first new MSCS high school to be built in ten years and was expected to cost $100 million.

We reached out to MSCS for comment but have not heard back.
