Memphis Showboats announce new head coach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Showboats have a new head coach.
The second head coach for the Showboats’ second season is John DeFilippo, according to a release from the United States Football League.
DeFilippo was formerly the head coach of the New Orleans Breakers, which went 7-3 last season and qualified for the first-round of playoffs.
He has extensive professional coaching experience, including coaching quarterbacks for the NFL Philadelphia Eagles during that team’s Super Bowl run in 2017, and as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2018.
The league also announced that the teams have been divided into two conferences, the USFL and the XFL, after the two separate leagues merged earlier last year.
The Showboats are in the USFL, along with Birmingham, Houston and Michigan.
The XFL Conference is comprised of the Arlington Renegades, the D.C. Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas and the St. Louis Battlehawks.
The season kicks off March 30.
