Rapper Plies sues GloRilla, other artists for copyright infringement

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Florida rapper Plies filed a lawsuit against a group of artists, including Memphis rapper GloRilla, over copyright infringement.
Plies alleged that Soulja Boy used elements from “Me & My Goons” in his June 2010 song “Pretty Boy Swag.”
The lawsuit states that Soulja Boy then authorized Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla to sample the copyrighted work, leading to their April 2024 song “Wanna Be.” Plies claimed that GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion used “substantial elements,” including melody, rhythm, and/or lyrics, from “My & My Goons.” The Florida rapper claimed that GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B again improperly used his song when they recorded and released “Wanna Be Remix” in May 2024.
The lawsuit said that the group never offered compensation after being contacted by legal representatives for Plies.
Plies asked a judge to grant “all profits attributable to the infringement,” among other monetary awards.
