MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shelby County Government officials, including Mayor Lee Harris, will host the third Southern Justice Summit today, April 11, at Rhodes College.

The event’s theme this year, marking its third, is “The Importance of Second Chances,” and will hone in on strategies and proven successful reentry workforce programs across the region.

The summit’s keynote speaker is a former public defender and author, Keeda Haynes.

The event happens during April’s “Second Chance Month.”

Other guests during the summit’s panel discussion will include experts in reentry services and human resources, including Dr. William Arnold and Gerald Thornton.

A former local journalist, Marybeth Conley will talk about her initiative and efforts for transitional housing called “Flip My Life.”

The Southern Justice Summit started in 2020.

Ex-offenders who register to attend will get priority consideration for the next Shelby County Office of Re-entry FOCUSED cohort, which offers a six-week paid job readiness program for formerly incarcerated residents.
