Teen driver says he was forced off road and robbed after wreck

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Mississippi teen says he is still traumatized a month after he was forced off a Memphis road and robbed as he crawled out of the wreckage.

WREG reported the story last week, but the victim is speaking out with more details about what he says happened the night of Oct. 27.

The 19-year-old, who did not want to be identified, said it was about 5:30 a.m., and he was driving home from work on Lamar near Getwell when a Charger veered toward him, causing him to lose control of his car and overturn.

He said he was going about 60 mph at the time and slammed into a telephone pole.

“As I crawled out of my flipped car, I didn’t have any shoes on anymore, my nose was gushing out blood, my arm and head had glass all in them and my tailbone was nearly broken, but as I was crawling out of my car the blue Scat Pack Charger was turned around and waiting for me to get out of the car.”

The victim said the driver of the Charger began yelling at him, and then two guys came out of nowhere, asked if everyone was okay, and then robbed him.

“As they were robbing me, I tried to fight back, and they told me not to try to run away from them. As they were robbing me, the guy on my left had his gun up to my gut. They made me give them the password to my phone and then wrote it down on their phone and took off running across the street.”

He said they left with his cell phone, his wallet containing debit and credit cards, and $900 in cash he had been saving up to fix the transmission on another vehicle.

“They tried to use my Cashapp card three times at different stores around that area. The guy that tried to hit me left right after the robbers robbed me.”

The victim said the robbers left on foot, and he ran after them and found his debit card, driver’s license, and tow slip for a black Infiniti. Police said the Infiniti was registered to Daravious Jackson, 32.

Daravious Jackson was charged with aggravated robbery (SCSO)

Jackson was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery after the victim was able to pick him out of a photo lineup. It does not appear police have made any other arrests in the case.

The victim said his Hyundai Elantra was totaled just three weeks after he bought it, and now he has to depend on others to get around.

“It has affected my everyday life,” he said. “I’m very paranoid about my surroundings now.”
