
Tennessee sued by nonprofit, residents over SNAP benefit ‘systemic failures’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A lawsuit filed by a Tennessee-based nonprofit alleges the state repeatedly does not determine eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The lawsuit was filed by various plaintiffs, all Tennessee residents, and The Contributor Inc. against Commissioner Clarence H. Carter with the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
The plaintiffs claim the state “persistently and systemically fails to determine eligibility” for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also known as food stamps.
FOX 17 News reached out to the Department of Human Services Commissioner’s Office and are awaiting a response.
