
Free summer meals available for Mid-South students as end of school year nears

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – As the school year comes to an end, there are a lot of students who rely on the free meals provided at school.
Summer often brings challenges for students who don’t know where their next meal will come from.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools is offering its summer meal program from May 29-Aug. 2 at about 100 locations. Meals must be eaten on site and are available for children ages 18 and under.
FOX13 found several summer food programs available for students. They are listed below:
- MSCS’s meal program
- YMCA
- Memphis & Shelby County Lead Safe Collaborative Community Outreach
- Mid-South Food Bank
The USDA will launch the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children (Summer EBT) to help provide groceries for low-income families. It will give families $40 per child each month.
Both Arkansas and Tennessee opted into the Summer EBT program.
